your Prophet... the ḥadīth. Al-Bazzār and al-Ṭabarānī said—and the wording is his: "It is not narrated from Ibn Masʿūd except through this isnād, and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar is unique in narrating it." I said: He is al-Raqī, a trustworthy narrator among the teachers of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, as are those above him; however, Ḥammād ibn Abī Sulaymān was only narrated by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad," so the ḥadīth has a good isnād, and it is authentic with its aforementioned corroborating evidence. (Note): Ḥammād is mentioned without attribution by al-Ṭabarānī, and when al-Haythamī attempted to attribute him, he made errors, which need clarification; for he said (2/127): "The men of al-Ṭabarānī are the men of 'al-Ṣaḥīḥ,' except for Ḥammād ibn Sulaymān, who is trustworthy but became confused." I say: Firstly, there is no narrator at all—let alone one described as confused—named (Ḥammād ibn Sulaymān), and it might come to mind that he meant (Ḥammād ibn Salamah), but this is very unlikely; because al-Haythamī excluded him from the men of "al-Ṣaḥīḥ," yet he is among them, as Muslim relied on him and al-Bukhārī cited him as supporting evidence, and no one accused him of confusion, and he is an imam among the imams of the sunnah, may Allāh have mercy on him. Strangely, this error was overlooked by the commentator on "Musnad Abī Yaʿlá" (9/149), who quoted it from al-Haythamī without any comment! Unlike the commentator on "Duʿāʾ al-Ṭabarānī," who noticed something was amiss; thus he printed an exclamation mark beside the name like this: ".. Ḥammād ibn Sulaymān, (sic) ..".
