it has a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of Makḥūl, transmitted as mursal. It was recorded by al-Dārimī in "Sunan" (1/88) with a ḥasan isnād from him. It was connected by al-Tirmidhī (2686), al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" (2/262/1696), and Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr in "al-Jāmiʿ" (1/35-38) from the ḥadīth of Abū al-Dardāʾ and Abū Umāmah, and there is weakness in its isnād. See the commentary on "al-Mishkāt" (213). *The permissibility of discussing knowledge at night
(He would narrate to us for most of the night about the Children of Israel; he would not stand except for a significant prayer). It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (2/379), Aḥmad (4/437 and 444), al-Bazzār (1/119-120), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (18/207/510) through the route of Abū Hilāl: Qatādah narrated to us from Abū Ḥassān from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn who said... and he mentioned it. Al-Bazzār said: "Hishām disagreed with Abū Hilāl in this ḥadīth, and Hishām is more reliable." And it is as he said; for Abū Hilāl—whose name is Muḥammad ibn Salīm al-Rāsibī—has weakness in his memory; al-Bukhārī recorded from him in a suspended form. As for Hishām—who is Ibn Abī ʿAbd Allāh al-Dastawāʾī—he is a trustworthy and reliable narrator, relied upon by the two Shaykhs, and he disagreed with Abū Hilāl in his isnād; he made (ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr) in place of (ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn). It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (3663) and Aḥmad (4/437) through the route of Muʿādh ibn Hishām: My father narrated it to me. I say: And this isnād is ṣaḥīḥ according to the conditions of Muslim; all its men are trustworthy narrators
