and al-Tirmidhī, al-Ḥākim, and al-Bayhaqī also [recorded it], and al-Tirmidhī said: "A strange ḥadīth, and ʿUmar ibn Zayd, we do not know of anyone significant who narrated from him other than ʿAbd al-Razzāq." As for al-Ḥākim, he remained silent about it, and al-Dhahabī critiqued him by saying: "ʿUmar is weak." Ibn Ḥibbān said in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ": "He narrates oddities from well-known narrators despite his few narrations, to the extent that he falls outside the bounds of being used as evidence in what does not agree with the trustworthy." Then he presented two rejected ḥadīths for him, this being one of them, and the other is found in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" and "al-Irwāʾ." With the statements of al-Tirmidhī and Ibn Ḥibbān, Ibn al-Jawzī critiqued it in "al-ʿIlal" and did not add more. The second chain: it is narrated by al-Aʿmash from Abū Sufyān from Jābir who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) forbade the price of a dog and a cat." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd and Ibn al-Jārūd in "al-Muntaqá" and also by al-Ṭaḥāwī in "al-Sharḥ" and "Mushkil al-Āthār," and also by al-Ḥākim and al-Bayhaqī, and al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said. Do not pay attention to the statement of Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr in "al-Tamhīd."
