the bricks? They informed him, so he made bricks with them, and he would eat from the work of his hands. When it was time for prayer, he would stand to pray. The workers reported this to their landlord, saying that among us is a man who does such and such. The landlord sent for him, but he refused to come, three times. Then the landlord came riding his mount, and when he saw him, he fled, but the landlord caught up with him and said: "Let me speak to you." So he stood until he spoke to him and informed him of his story. When he told him that he was a king who fled out of fear of his Lord, the landlord said: "I think I will join you." So he followed him, and they worshipped Allāh until they both died at Ramla, Egypt. ʿAbd Allāh said: "If I had been there, I would have been able to find their graves by the description given to us by the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." It was recorded by al-Bazzār in "Musnad" (4/267/3689) through the route of ʿAmr ibn Abī Qays from Simāk—meaning Ibn Ḥarb—from al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from his father from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) ... and he said: "We do not know anyone who narrated it from Simāk from al-Qāsim except ʿAmr, and it was narrated by al-Masʿūdī from Simāk from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from his father, without mentioning al-Qāsim." I said: The narration of al-Masʿūdī was recorded by Aḥmad (1/451) and Abū Yaʿlá (9/261/5383) through the route of Yazīd ibn Hārūn: al-Masʿūdī informed us from Simāk ibn Ḥarb from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh from Ibn Masʿūd, and he mentioned it. Qays ibn al-Rabīʿ also followed them from Simāk ibn Ḥarb with it, and he did not mention al-Qāsim in his isnād. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (10/216/10370) and also in "al-Awsaṭ" (2/112/1/6743) and he said: "No one narrated it from Simāk except Qays ibn al-Rabīʿ"!
