as for his statement: "It is a weak ḥadīth," it is accepted when considering the aforementioned auditory path, but he missed the other path with which we began the derivation, and we deemed the ḥadīth good by combining both. perhaps if he had reviewed it, he would retract his certainty about the weakness of the ḥadīth. And Allāh knows best. as for Shaykh al-Ṣābūnī, it is most likely that he did not cite the ḥadīth because he did not like its wording, as he is from the Ashʿarīs or Māturīdīs who interpret [texts], and not because he knew that it has no basis in its original wording!
وأما قوله: وهو حديث ضعيف، فهو مسلم بالنظر لطريق السمعي المذكورة، وقد فاته الطريق الأخرى التي ابتدأنا التخريج بها، وحسنا الحديث بمجموعهما. فلعله لو وقف عليها يرجع عن جزمه بضعف الحديث. والله أعلم. وأما الشيخ الصابوني، فغالب الظن أنه لم يورد الحديث لأنه لم يرق له لفظه، فإنه من الأشاعرة أو الماتريديين المؤولين، وليس لأنه عرف أنه لا أصل له بلفظ أصله!
- "Shall I not inform you of a night better than the Night of Decree? A guard standing watch in a land of fear, perhaps he will not return to his family." It was narrated by al-Ruyānī in "his Musnad" (Q 247/2): Muḥammad ibn Bashshār informed us, Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān informed us, Thawr ibn Yazīd informed us from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿĀʾidh from Mujāhid from Ibn ʿUmar from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and perhaps he did not attribute it [directly to the Prophet] - he said: and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic, its men are trustworthy, the men of al-Bukhārī except for ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿĀʾidh, and he is trustworthy as in "al-Taqrīb." The ḥadīth was also narrated by al-Ḥākim (2/80-81) and from him by al-Bayhaqī (9/149) through the path of Musaddad: Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd narrated to us with it except that he did not say: "and perhaps he did not attribute it [directly to the Prophet]." al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī"! and al-Dhahabī agreed with him! This is one of their errors due to the aforementioned exception, and al-Mundhirī also acknowledged it (2/154)! Then al-Ḥākim said:
- " ألا أنبئكم بليلة أفضل من ليلة القدر؟ حارس الحرس في أرض خوف لعله أن لا يرجع إلى أهله ". أخرجه الروياني في " مسنده " (ق ٢٤٧ / ٢) : أخبرنا محمد بن بشار أخبرنا يحيى بن سعيد القطان أخبرنا ثور بن يزيد عن عبد الرحمن بن عائذ عن مجاهد عن ابن عمر عن النبي ﷺ وربما لم يرفعه - قال: فذكره. قلت: وهذا إسناد صحيح، رجاله ثقات رجال البخاري غير عبد الرحمن بن عائذ، وهو ثقة كما في " التقريب ". والحديث أخرجه الحاكم (٢ / ٨٠ - ٨١) وعنه البيهقي (٩/ ١٤٩) من طريق مسدد: حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد به إلا أنه لم يقل: " وربما لم يرفعه ". وقال الحاكم: " صحيح على شرط البخاري "! ووافقه الذهبي! وذلك من أوهامهما لما تقدم من الاستثناء، وقد أقره المنذري أيضا (٢ / ١٥٤) ! ثم قال الحاكم:
