"* (It is not for a prophet to act dishonestly) * He said: It is not for a prophet to be accused by his companions." Narrated by al-Bazzār in "Musnad" (2197 - Kashf al-Astār): Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥīm narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn ʿAṭāʾ narrated to us, Hārūn al-Qārīʾ narrated to us from al-Zubayr ibn al-Kharrīt from ʿIkrimah from Ibn ʿAbbās... and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic; all its men are trustworthy, the men of al-Bukhārī, except for ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn ʿAṭāʾ, who is among the men of Muslim. Al-Haythamī said in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (6/328): "Narrated by al-Bazzār and its men are the men of the authentic [collections]." I say: Khuṣayf ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ḥarrānī followed him from ʿIkrimah with it, and his wording is: "This verse was revealed on the day of Badr: * (It is not for a prophet to act dishonestly) *, regarding a red cloak that was lost on the day of Badr, and some people said: Perhaps the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) took it! So Allāh revealed: * (It is not for a prophet to act dishonestly) *." Narrated by al-Ṭabarī in "Tafsīr" (4/102), al-Bazzār (2198), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (11/364/12028 and 12029) through various routes from Khuṣayf with it. Also narrated by Abū Dāwūd (3971), al-Tirmidhī (3012), and al-Ṭabarī through the route of ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād: Khuṣayf narrated to us, Muqassim narrated to us, Ibn ʿAbbās narrated it to me. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A good and rare ḥadīth."
