the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) woke up and called ʿĀʾishah and said: O ʿĀʾishah! Did you know that Allāh has informed me about my ailment? When morning came, the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) went, and his companions went with him to the well. Its water appeared as if it were infused with henna, and its palm trees, which drank from its water, had their branches twisted as if they were the heads of devils. He said: A man descended and extracted the spathe of a date palm from beneath the rock, and inside it was the comb of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and hair from his head. There was also a wax figure resembling the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), with needles inserted into it, and a string with eleven knots. Gabriel came to him with the two protective chapters and said: O Muḥammad, * "Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak'" * and he untied a knot, * "From the evil of what He created" * and he untied another knot until he completed them, untying all the knots. He would not remove a needle except that he felt pain from it and then found relief afterward. It was said: O Messenger of Allāh! Why not kill the Jew? The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Allāh has cured me, and what lies beyond is the severe punishment of Allāh. He said: So he was expelled. This was narrated by al-Bayhaqī in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (2/2/226/1-2 and 7/92-94) through the route of Salamah ibn Ḥabbān: Yazīd ibn Hārūn told us, Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd Allāh informed us from Abū Bakr ibn Muḥammad from ʿAmrah with it. I say: This isnād is very weak. Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd Allāh is al-ʿArzamī, and he is abandoned. Salamah ibn Ḥabbān - with the ḥāʾ open (1) - was narrated from by a group of reliable narrators, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "Thiqat" (8/287), so the defect is from al-ʿArzamī. What weakens this ḥadīth is that it has been reported in a summarized form through the route of Hishām ibn ʿUrwah from his father from ʿĀʾishah, raised to the Prophet, similar to it without mentioning the figure and what follows
