(4/77 - 78) and Ibn Abī Shaybah (12397) and Aḥmad (2/295 - 296) through the route of Ḥammād ibn Salamah from ʿĀṣim ibn Abī al-Nujūd from Abū Ṣāliḥ from Abū Hurayrah who said: and he mentioned it as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. In a version by Abū Dāwūd: "Perhaps Allāh..." which is the wording of Ibn Ḥibbān, and al-Ḥākim said: "The isnād is authentic, and they did not record it with this wording with certainty: 'Indeed, Allāh looked upon them and forgave them,' but they recorded it with conjecture: (And what makes you know, perhaps Allāh, the Exalted, looked upon the people of Badr)." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: the wording they recorded is from the ḥadīth of ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), and others have narrated it from him, and al-Tirmidhī authenticated it, and it is recorded in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abū Dāwūd" (2381). It has also been reported from other Companions, among them Ibn ʿAbbās with Aḥmad (1/331), Ibn ʿUmar with him (2/109), and Jābir as well (3/350), and it was authenticated according to the conditions of Muslim, and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. All of them mentioned it in the story of Ḥāṭib ibn Abī Baltaʿah, contrary to the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, where he mentioned another story saying: "A man from the Anṣār became blind, so he sent to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): 'Come and mark a place in my house for a mosque that I may use as a place of prayer.' The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came, and his people gathered around him, and one of them remained behind. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'Where is so-and-so?' Some of the people nudged him and said: 'He is such and such!' The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'Did he not witness Badr?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allāh! But he is such and such.' He said: 'Perhaps Allāh...'" This is how Ibn Ḥibbān narrated it with his authentic isnād from Ḥammād ibn Salamah. And likewise, it was narrated by
