its benefits. Some discerning readers might wonder and ask: What drives these ignorant people to refute al-Albānī, when Allāh has granted him acceptance on earth—by His permission—and his books and writings have benefited those whom Allāh wills from among the scholars and students of knowledge? I say: There are reasons, the most important of which—or among the most important—is envy, as confirmed by his saying (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): "The disease of the nations before you has crept upon you: envy and hatred, and hatred is the shaver; I do not say it shaves hair, but it shaves religion." (1) Some of those who stand to refute me almost reveal this reason with their own pens; for example, the author of the part refuted mentions in his introduction that one of his brothers (2) suggested to him to review "Silsilat al-Aḥādīth al-Ṣaḥīḥah" by Shaykh Muḥammad Nāṣir al-Dīn al-Albānī; he said: "Because it contains weak ḥadīths, and people accept them with complete confidence as if they are verified and authentic..." Among those reasons are intellectual or doctrinal differences, and the love of prominence.
