it is understood from Shaykh Nāṣir's words that the ḥadīth is weak due to the tadlīs of al-Walīd ibn Muslim, but this is not the case, for al-Walīd explicitly stated the transmission.. I said: They were ignorant, or he was ignorant, that the tadlīs of al-Walīd is of the type of tadlīs al-taswiyah, which does not benefit from his explicit statement of transmission from his shaykh. Rather, every narrator above him must explicitly state the transmission from his shaykh and above! So take heed, O people of insight.
- "When Jaʿfar returned from Abyssinia, the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) embraced him." It was recorded by Abū Yaʿlá in "his Musnad" (3/398/1876) through the route of Ismāʿīl ibn Mujālid from his father from ʿĀmir from Jābir who said: and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is eligible for improvement; Mujālid—who is Ibn Saʿīd—is not strong, and al-Haythamī criticized it, saying (9/272): ".. he is weak, though he has been deemed reliable, and the rest of the men are those of the authentic collections." And I say: However, this Ismāʿīl, even though he is among al-Bukhārī's men, some have criticized him for his memory. Al-Dhahabī said in "al-Kāshif": "Truthful." Likewise, al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb" and added: "He makes mistakes." I said: And this is more accurate, for someone like him is average; his ḥadīth oscillates between being good in itself or good due to others. If he is followed, the researcher does not hesitate to improve it, and this is the case here as he was followed by someone similar or close to him, namely Asad ibn ʿAmr from Mujālid ibn Saʿīd with it. It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Sharḥ al-Maʿānī" (4/281)
