"disbelievers." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī with an isnād that is acceptable, as mentioned in "al-Targhīb," and its narrators are those of the authentic collections, as stated in "al-Majmaʿ," and the ḥāfiẓ remained silent about it.
"Do not fight a people until you invite them." It was recorded by ʿAbd al-Razzāq in "al-Muṣannaf" (5/217/9424): ʿUmar ibn Dharr informed us from Yaḥyá ibn Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah: that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when he sent ʿAlī, he sent a man behind him and said: "Follow ʿAlī, do not leave him behind, but follow him and take his hand, and say to him: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Stay until he comes to you. He said: So he stayed until the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came and said: ... and he mentioned it." ʿAbd al-Razzāq said: And I heard it myself from Yaḥyá ibn Isḥāq. I said: Its isnād is authentic, but it is muʿḍal or mursal, and al-Ṭabarānī connected it in "al-Awsaṭ" from the ḥadīth of Anas, as mentioned by al-Haythamī in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (5/305) in a summarized form, and he said: "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ," and its narrators are those of the authentic collections except for ʿUthmān ibn Yaḥyá al-Qarqasānī, and he is trustworthy." I said: And its isnād is as follows (2/222/1/8430 - my numbering): Mūsá ibn Jumhūr narrated to us, ʿUthmān ibn Yaḥyá al-Qarqasānī narrated to us, Sufyān narrated from ʿUmar ibn Dharr from Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah from Anas ibn Mālik who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sent ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib to a people to fight them, then he sent a man to him and said: Do not leave him behind, and say to him: Do not fight them until you invite them." And he said: "No one narrated it from Isḥāq except ʿUmar, and Ibn ʿUyaynah was unique in narrating it." I said: And he is trustworthy, as are those above him, and as for al-Qarqasānī, Ibn Ḥibbān deemed him trustworthy (8/455)
