(Benefit): In "al-Qāmūs": "(al-mudd) - with ḍammah: a measure, which is two raṭls or a raṭl and a third, or the amount that fills the hands of an average person when he fills them and extends his hands with them, and it was named mudd because of this. I have tested this and found it to be correct." I said: Based on the second opinion that the mudd is a raṭl and a third, the ḥadīth of Sharīk contradicts the ḥadīth of Sufyān, which mentioned the mudd but did not mention the two raṭls, so it is less than them. And Allāh knows best. Then this ḥadīth has previously been referenced under number (1991), but more briefly than here, as we have found new benefits, so I deemed it appropriate to reference it again with these useful additions, and the previous referencing is not devoid of benefits not mentioned here.

"A prophet will come with two men, and a prophet will come with three or more or less, and it will be said to him: Did you convey [the message] to your people? He will say: Yes. Then his people will be called, and it will be said: Did this reach you? They will say: No. It will be said: Who testifies for you? He will say: Muḥammad and his nation. Then the nation of Muḥammad will be called, and it will be said: Did this reach you? They will say: Yes. It will be said: How do you know this? They will say: Our Prophet informed us that the messengers conveyed [the message], and we believed him. He said: That is the saying of Allāh: * 'And thus We have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you' * (al-Baqarah, 2:143)."
