"whoever conceals [the faults of] a Muslim, Allāh will conceal him in this world and the Hereafter." It was recorded by Muslim (8/71), Abū Dāwūd (2/307), al-Tirmidhī (1425 and 1931), Ibn Mājah (1/99 and 2/112), Ibn al-Jārūd (802), and Aḥmad (2/252). Muḥammad ibn Wāsiʿ corroborated it from Abū Ṣāliḥ. It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/383), who authenticated it according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and al-Dhahabī agreed with him! A second corroboration comes from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar, reported as elevated. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (5/74 - Fatḥ) and Muslim (8/18), al-Tirmidhī (1426), and Aḥmad (2/91). (Note): Al-Suyūṭī included the ḥadīth of the chapter in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr" from the narration of Aḥmad from a man, but he added after the phrase "in this world": "so he does not disgrace him," which is an inserted addition with no basis in "al-Musnad" nor in any other source from this chain, nor in any of the chains I mentioned. Al-Munāwī did not notice this in his "Sharḥayn"! Rather, he implied it was in al-Bukhārī. Then I saw the ḥadīth in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Kabīr" by al-Suyūṭī without the addition, so all praise is due to Allāh for His guidance, and I ask Him for more of His bounty. A third corroboration comes from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās, reported as elevated, with the wording: "whoever conceals the private matters of his Muslim brother, Allāh will conceal his private matters on the Day of Resurrection, and whoever exposes the private matters of his Muslim brother, Allāh will expose his private matters until He disgraces him in his own house." It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (2/112) through the chain of Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān al-Jumaḥī: narrated to us by al-Ḥakam ibn Abān from ʿIkrimah from him. I say: This isnād is weak, Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān al-Jumaḥī was mentioned by al-Dhahabī in "al-Mughnī" and he said:
