"He divorced Ḥafṣah, then took her back." Narrated by Dāwūd (2283), al-Nasāʾī (2/117), al-Dārimī (2/160-161), Ibn Mājah (2016), Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (1/53), al-Ḥākim (2/197), and al-Bayhaqī (7/321-322) from Yaḥyá ibn Zakarīyā ibn Abī Zāʾidah from Ṣāliḥ ibn Ṣāliḥ from Salamah ibn Kuhayl from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from Ibn ʿAbbās from ʿUmar as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And I say: It is as they said, and Ṣāliḥ is Ibn Ṣāliḥ ibn Ḥayy. Abū Yaʿlá has another chain, he said: Abū Kurayb narrated to us, Yūnus ibn Bukayr informed us from al-Aʿmash from Abū Ṣāliḥ from Ibn ʿUmar who said: "ʿUmar entered upon Ḥafṣah while she was crying, and he said to her: Why are you crying? Perhaps the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) divorced you. If he divorced you once, then took you back for my sake, by Allāh, if he divorces you again, I will never speak to you." With this isnād, it was narrated by al-Bazzār (p. 156) similarly. Then he said: Aḥmad ibn Yazdād al-Kūfī narrated to us: ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Ghaffār narrated to us, al-Aʿmash narrated it. The first isnād is acceptable, its men are trustworthy according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, except that Yūnus ibn Bukayr was only narrated by al-Bukhārī in a suspended form, and he is truthful but makes mistakes as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Ghaffār followed him, but I did not know him.
