it is from the narration of Anas ibn Mālik (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), and there are multiple chains from him. The first: Salm ibn Qutaybah from Ṭuʿmah ibn ʿAmr from Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit from him with it. It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (1/201 - Tuhfah) and Aslam al-Wāsiṭī in "Tārīkh Wāsiṭ" (p. 40), and al-Tirmidhī said: "This ḥadīth has been narrated from Anas as a mawqūf [statement], and I do not know anyone who raised it except what was narrated by Salm ibn Qutaybah from Ṭuʿmah ibn ʿAmr, and it is only narrated from Ḥabīb ibn Abī Ḥabīb al-Bajalī from Anas ibn Mālik as his statement." I said: It has been narrated as marfūʿ [attributed to the Prophet] from another chain not noted by al-Tirmidhī, which is: the second: Manṣūr ibn Muhājir Abū al-Ḥasan narrated to us from Abū Ḥamzah al-Wāsiṭī from Anas ibn Mālik who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. It was recorded by Aslam al-Wāsiṭī in "Tārīkh Wāsiṭ" (p. 36): Aḥmad ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us, saying: Ismāʿīl ibn Marzūq narrated to us, saying: Manṣūr ibn Muhājir narrated to us... and he said: "This (meaning Abū Ḥamzah al-Wāsiṭī) is named Jubayr ibn Maymūn." Thus he said, and I did not see it from anyone else nor did I find among the narrators anyone named Jubayr ibn Maymūn; rather, it appears that this Abū Ḥamzah is ʿImrān ibn Abī ʿAṭāʾ al-Qaṣṣāb, as al-Dūlābī said in "al-Kuná" (1/156): "Wāsiṭī, narrated from him by Shuʿbah and Hushaym." I said: He is among the men of Muslim, narrated from his father, Ibn ʿAbbās, Anas, and others, and a group has authenticated him while some have weakened him, so he is ḥasan in ḥadīth, especially when corroborated. And Manṣūr ibn Muhājir, a group of trustworthy narrators have narrated from him, among them Yaʿqūb ibn Shaybah, and they did not mention authentication for him, and therefore al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb":
