they both said - and the wording is from Ibn Abī al-Dunyā -: Suwayd ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, saying: al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us from his father, who said: Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī narrated to us from Jundub that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) narrated ... and he mentioned it. Then Ibn Abī al-Dunyā narrated it from another route as a mawqūf report: Abū Ḥafṣ al-Ṣaffār narrated to us, saying: Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, saying: Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī narrated to us from Jundub ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Bajalī, who said: and he mentioned it as mawqūf. I said: The first isnād is weak, for although Suwayd ibn Saʿīd is among the shaykhs of Muslim, he has been weakened. In fact, al-Tirmidhī narrated from al-Bukhārī that he is very weak. Similarly, what al-Junaydī narrated from him, he said: "There is a concern, he became blind and was prompted with what is not from his ḥadīth." Al-Dhahabī mentioned him in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" and said: "Aḥmad said: His ḥadīth is abandoned." Ibn Maʿīn said: A liar. Al-Nasāʾī said: Not trustworthy. Al-Bukhārī said.... Abū Ḥātim said: Truthful but a frequent mudallis. Al-Dāraquṭnī said: Trustworthy, except that he aged, so perhaps a ḥadīth with some objectionable content was read to him, and he approved it." Al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Taqrīb" said: "Truthful in himself except that he became blind and was prompted with what is not from his ḥadīth, and Ibn Maʿīn spoke harshly about him." I said: For someone like him, the soul does not find reassurance in using his report as evidence, especially since it comes as mawqūf from the other route, and its narrators are trustworthy except for Abū Ḥafṣ al-Ṣaffār, whom I do not know now. However, I found a corroborator for Suwayd ibn Saʿīd, as al-Bayhaqī narrated it in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (2/96/2) from the route of Suwayd ibn Saʿīd and Abū Salamah Yaḥyá ibn Khalaf al-Bāhilī, both of whom said: al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us with it marfūʿ. And this al-Bāhilī is trustworthy, among the shaykhs of Muslim whom he used as evidence in "al-Ṣaḥīḥ."
