and he was followed by al-Sarī ibn Ismāʿīl from Sayyār Abū al-Ḥakam with it. It was recorded by Tamām in "al-Fawāʾid" (167/2). But this al-Sarī is abandoned in ḥadīth, as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb". (Note) The wording of al-Haytham ibn Kulayb and others is: "and they are not increased from them except in distance" instead of his statement in the narration of al-Ḥākim and others: "and they do not increase from Allāh except in distance." It has occurred with al-Ṭabarānī—and from him Abū Nuʿaym—in a very abbreviated form with the wording: "The Hour has approached and they are not increased from them except in distance." Al-Suyūṭī mentioned it in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr" from the narration of al-Ṭabarānī with this wording except that he said: "in proximity" instead of "in distance." This is an error that is likely not from al-Suyūṭī, and al-Manāwī pointed it out.

"Ask Allāh for beneficial knowledge and seek refuge with Allāh from knowledge that does not benefit." It was narrated by Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (12/605), Ibn Mājah (3843), ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd in "al-Muntaqá min al-Musnad" (Q/118/1), and al-Fākihī in "Ḥadīth" (2/34/2) from Usāmah ibn Zayd from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir from Jābir as marfūʿ. I say: This isnād is good. Al-Haythamī also said the same (10/182) after attributing it to al-Ṭabarānī's "al-Awsaṭ", and he has a corroborating narration from ʿĀʾishah. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī attributed it in "Faḍl ʿIlm al-Salaf" (p. 8) to al-Nasāʾī with the wording: "that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to say: O Allāh, I ask You for beneficial knowledge and seek refuge with You from knowledge that does not benefit."
