- "Indeed, Allāh has added for you a prayer, which is the witr, so perform it between the ʿIshāʾ prayer and the Fajr prayer." Narrated by Imām Aḥmad (6/7) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (1/100/1) through two chains from Ibn al-Mubārak: Saʿīd ibn Yazīd informed us, Ibn Hubayrah narrated to me from Abū Tamīm al-Jayshānī that ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ delivered a sermon to the people on Friday, saying: Abū Baṣrah told me that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Abū Tamīm said: Abū Dharr took my hand and walked in the mosque to Abū Baṣrah and said to him: Did you hear the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say what ʿAmr said? Abū Baṣrah said: I heard it from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). I said: And this isnād is authentic, all its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim. Saʿīd ibn Yazīd is Abū Shujāʿ al-Iskandarānī. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Lahīʿah also followed him: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Hubayrah informed us of it. It was also narrated by Aḥmad (6/379), al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Sharḥ al-Maʿānī" (1/250), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (1/104/2) and al-Dūlābī in "al-Kuná" (1/13) through three chains from Ibn Lahīʿah with it. Its isnād with al-Ṭaḥāwī is authentic as I clarified in "Irwāʾ al-Ghalīl" number (416). It has other paths from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), some of which I have extracted there, and this path is the main one, which is why I have limited myself to it here. Shaykh al-Kattānī and his colleague, Ustādh al-Zuḥaylī, mentioned in the takhrīj of "Tuḥfat al-Fuqahāʾ" (1/1/355) a large group of them from ten Companions, including one path from ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, but it is weak, and they missed this authentic path!
