from a different chain than that of Mūsá ibn ʿUbaydah, so perhaps al-Bayhaqī also reported it in "al-Shuʿab" from a different chain as well. However, this is unlikely. And Allāh knows best. indeed, the ḥadīth of the chapter is authentic, as it was narrated by Shuʿbah who said: I heard al-ʿAlāʾ narrating from his father from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said: "The sun does not rise or set on a day better or greater than Friday, and there is no creature except that it fears Friday..." the ḥadīth. It was reported by Aḥmad (2/457) with a chain authentic according to the criteria of Muslim, and Muslim also reported it in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (3/6) through another chain from Abū Hurayrah with a similar narration. It is also a narration for Aḥmad (2/401 and 418), and al-Ḥākim reported it (2/544) through a third chain from Abū Hurayrah in a shortened form and said: "Authentic according to the criteria of Muslim, and they both reported it from the ḥadīth of al-Zuhrī with different wording." And I did not see it in al-Bukhārī. And Allāh knows best. Then I found a supporting narration for the complete ḥadīth of Mūsá ibn ʿUbaydah from the ḥadīth of Abū Mālik al-Ashʿarī who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "The promised day is the Day of Resurrection, the witness is Friday, and the witnessed is the Day of ʿArafah, and Friday is a treasure Allāh has reserved for us, and the middle prayer is the ʿAṣr prayer." It was reported by al-Ṭabarānī (3458) from Hāshim ibn Mirthad, and by Ibn Jarīr in "al-Tafsīr" from Muḥammad ibn ʿAwf who said: Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Ḍamḍam ibn Zarʿah narrated to me from Shurayḥ ibn ʿUbayd from Abū Mālik al-Ashʿarī who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it. I said: This chain's narrators are trustworthy, except for Ibn Ismāʿīl, and it is also disconnected between Shurayḥ ibn ʿUbayd and Abū Mālik al-Ashʿarī. And Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh was said by al-Haythamī (7/135): "Weak." The ḥāfiẓ explained in "al-Taqrīb" by saying: "They criticized him for narrating from his father without hearing." However, he provided an important benefit in "al-Tahdhīb" saying: "Abū Dāwūd reported several ḥadīths from Muḥammad ibn ʿAwf from him from his father, but they narrate them (original: they narrate them) as Muḥammad ibn ʿAwf having seen them in Ismāʿīl's original." I said: If this is correct, then the narration of Ibn ʿAwf from him is strong because it is supported by its agreement with what Ibn ʿAwf found in Ismāʿīl's original, and it is a recognized finding, as is not hidden from the skilled. In conclusion, the ḥadīth with this supporting narration is ḥasan. And Allāh knows best. Tamām reported in "al-Fawāʾid" (5/2) and from him Ibn ʿAsākir in "al-Tārīkh" (4/280/2) from ʿAmmār ibn Maṭar: Mālik ibn Anas narrated to us from ʿUmārah ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣiyād from Nāfiʿ ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim from his father in a raised narration regarding His saying: *"By the witness and the witnessed"*: "The witness is Friday, and the witnessed is the Day of ʿArafah." But ʿAmmār ibn Maṭar was said by al-Dhahabī: "Destroyed, some considered him trustworthy, and some described him as having memory." So he is not used as evidence due to his severe weakness. What has been presented is sufficient without him
