will share with you in your religion and your lineage.' They said: 'The non-Arabs, O Messenger of Allāh?' He said: 'If faith were suspended at the Pleiades, men from the non-Arabs would attain it, and the people would be the happiest with it.' It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/395) through the route of Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn (original: ʿan) ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār narrated to us from Zayd ibn Aslam from Ibn ʿUmar who said: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it, and he [al-Ḥākim] said: 'Authentic according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī,' and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It is as they said, except that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār has been criticized by more than one person regarding his memory, and al-Dhahabī mentioned him in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" and said: 'Trustworthy, Ibn Maʿīn and others said: There is weakness in his ḥadīth.' And he said in "al-Mīzān": 'Righteous in ḥadīth, and he has been deemed trustworthy.' Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": 'Truthful but makes mistakes.' I say: It is sufficient for someone like him that his ḥadīth is considered good, but not authentic. Yes, the ḥadīth has supporting evidence that strengthens it. For it was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (1/9) through the route of ʿAmr ibn Sharḥabīl from a man among the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) as a marfūʿ ḥadīth, without the second part, and its wording is: 'I saw last night black sheep following me, then they were followed by white sheep, and Abū Bakr said: Those are the Arabs who followed you, then they were followed by the non-Arabs, and he (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Thus the king interpreted it in the morning.' Then he recorded it through another route from ʿAmr ibn Sharḥabīl from Ḥudhayfah with it. And through the route of Sawār ibn Muṣʿab from ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd Abū Ghiyāth from al-Shaʿbī from al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr with it. It was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym (1/209/267). Then he recorded it (1/10) from ʿAmr ibn Murrah from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā from Abū Bakr as a marfūʿ ḥadīth
