he said: My son, I do not know of anyone today who remains upon what we were upon whom I can command you to go to. However, a time has come upon you of a prophet who is sent with the religion of Abraham, emerging in the land of the Arabs, migrating to a land between two lava fields, between which are palm trees. He has signs that are not hidden: he eats gifts but does not eat charity, and between his shoulders is the seal of prophethood. If you can reach those lands, then do so. He said: Then he died and was buried. I stayed in Amuriyyah for as long as Allāh willed me to stay. Then a group of traders from the tribe of Kalb passed by, and I said to them: Will you take me to the land of the Arabs, and I will give you my cows and this small flock of mine? They said: Yes. So I gave them to them, and they carried me until they brought me to Wādī al-Qurā, where they wronged me and sold me to a Jewish man as a slave. I was with him and saw the palm trees and hoped that it was the land my companion had described to me, but it did not become clear to me. While I was with him, a cousin of his from the city of the Banū Qurayẓah came and bought me from him and took me to Medina. By Allāh, as soon as I saw it, I recognized it by the description of my companion, so I stayed there. Allāh sent His Messenger, and he stayed in Mecca for as long as he stayed.
