and al-Dhahabī said in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ wa-al-Matrūkīn": "They declared him weak." I said: al-Bukhārī also considered him very weak, saying: "He is questionable," and therefore he is not suitable as a witness for the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar. Consequently, I was not comfortable including it in "al-Ṣaḥīḥah," so I mentioned it here. If I later find a credible supporting witness for it, I will transfer it there. And Allāh knows best. Then I saw what necessitates transferring it there, as al-Khaṭīb narrated it (11/293) through the chain of ʿUthmān ibn Naṣr al-Baghdādī, who reported from al-Walīd ibn Shujāʿ, who reported from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad al-Darāwardī. This is a strong corroboration for al-Jārī, as this Ibn Shujāʿ is trustworthy and one of the narrators of Muslim, but this ʿUthmān ibn Naṣr was only described by al-Khaṭīb in his biography as: "His ḥadīth reached the strangers!" Then he presented this ḥadīth for him, without mentioning his death, any criticism, or commendation. However, there is another chain, as al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (5/120): "And from Abū ʿAbd al-Salām who said: I asked Ibn ʿUmar: How did the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) wear his turban? He said: He would wrap the folds of his turban around his head, tuck it behind him, and let it hang between his shoulders. It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ," and its men are those of the authentic collections except for Abū ʿAbd al-Salām, who is trustworthy." And he said: "And from Thawbān, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when he wore his turban, would let it hang in front of him and behind him. It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ," and in it is al-Ḥajjāj ibn Rushdīn, who is weak." In summary, the ḥadīth through these chains is authentic. And Allāh knows best
