"Tell Khālid not to kill a woman or a hired worker." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (1/416) through the route of ʿUmar ibn al-Murqaʿ ibn Ṣayfī, who said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather Rabāḥ ibn Rabīʿ, who said: "We were with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in a battle, and he saw people gathered around something. He sent a man and said: 'See what these people are gathered around.' The man returned and said: 'A slain woman.' He said: 'This one was not fighting!' He said: And Khālid ibn al-Walīd was at the forefront, so he sent a man and said..." and he mentioned it. This is a sound isnād, all its narrators are trustworthy. Abū al-Zanād narrated it from al-Murqaʿ in a more complete form, and this is his wording: "Catch up with Khālid and say: Do not kill offspring or a hired worker." It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī (2/127), al-Ḥākim (2/122), and Aḥmad (3/488) from Abū al-Zanād, who said: Al-Murqaʿ ibn Ṣayfī narrated to me from his grandfather Riyāḥ ibn al-Rabīʿ, the brother of Ḥanẓalah the scribe, that he informed him: He went out with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in a battle he led, with Khālid ibn al-Walīd at its forefront. Rabāḥ and the companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) passed by a slain woman from what the forefront had done, and they stopped to look at her, amazed by her creation, until the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) caught up with them on his mount. They moved away from her, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) stopped over her and said: 'This one was not fighting,' and he said to one of them... and he mentioned it. It was narrated by Ibn Mājah (2/195) from this perspective, and al-Ḥākim said: "Sound according to the conditions of the two shaykhs." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And I say: No, rather it is only sound; al-Murqaʿ ibn Ṣayfī was not narrated by the two shaykhs, and he is trustworthy
