" It was narrated by Aḥmad, al-Bazzār, and Abū Yaʿlá, and the men of Aḥmad are the men of the authentic collections except for Maymūn ibn ʿAjlān, who was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Ḥibbān and was not weakened by anyone." I said: This is a problematic discrepancy, and I have not been able to determine which is more likely correct, for the chain to Maymūn al-Marāʾī is authentic, as is the chain to Maymūn ibn ʿAjlān. Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned him in "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (4/1/239) and did not mention more than what can be derived from the isnād of Abū Yaʿlá, and he said, "My father was asked about him, and he said: A shaykh." Allāh knows best which of the two narrations is correct. In summary, the ḥadīth, with all its chains and supporting evidence, is authentic or at least ḥasan, as al-Tirmidhī said.
- "When a believer meets another believer, greets him with peace, and shakes his hand, their sins fall away as the leaves of a tree fall." Al-Mundhirī mentioned it in "al-Targhīb" (3/270), and then al-Haythamī in "al-Majmaʿ" (8/36) from the narration of al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" from Ḥudhayfah, and the first of them said: "And I do not know of any criticized narrators among them." The other said: "And Yaʿqūb ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ṭaḥlāʾ was narrated from by more than one, and no one weakened him, and the rest of the men are trustworthy." I said: There is something strange in this statement, for it is only said about a narrator: "More than one narrated from him, and no one weakened him," if he is obscure and not known for trustworthiness. But this is not the case with Ibn al-Ṭaḥlāʾ, as he was deemed trustworthy by Aḥmad, Ibn Maʿīn, Abū Ḥātim, and others, and Muslim used him as evidence. Therefore, I fear that this Yaʿqūb ibn Muḥammad is not Ibn al-Ṭaḥlāʾ. And Allāh knows best. I have found another chain for the ḥadīth that strengthens it, as ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb said in "al-Jāmiʿ"
