and he (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) would recite aloud in the morning prayer and in the first two units of the Maghrib and ʿIshāʾ prayers, and he would recite silently in the Ẓuhr and ʿAṣr prayers and the third unit of the Maghrib and the last two units of the ʿIshāʾ (al-Bukhārī and Abū Dāwūd). They would recognize his recitation in what he recited silently by the movement of his beard (al-Bukhārī and Muslim) and by him occasionally letting them hear a verse (al-Bukhārī and Abū Dāwūd). He would also recite aloud in the Friday prayer, the two ʿĪd prayers, and the prayer for rain (al-Bukhārī and Muslim) and the eclipse prayer
وكان ﷺ يجهر بالقراءة في صلاة الصبح وفي الركعتين الأوليين من المغرب والعشاء ويسر بها في الظهر والعصر والثالثة من المغرب والأخريين من العشاء (البخاري وأبو داود). وكانوا يعرفون قراءته فيما يسر به باضطراب لحيته (البخاري ومسلم) وبإسماعه إياهم الآية أحيانا (البخاري وأبو داود). وكان يجهر بها أيضا في صلاة الجمعة والعيدين والاستسقاء (البخاري ومسلم) والكسوف.
