(Ibn Khuzaymah in his Ṣaḥīḥ and al-Bayhaqī with a good isnād) and (Muʿādh used to pray the ʿIshāʾ [the last prayer] with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and then return to lead his people in prayer. One night, he returned and prayed with them, and a young man from his people [from Banū Salamah, called Sulaym] prayed with him. When the prayer became lengthy for the young man, [he left and] prayed [in a corner of the mosque], then departed, took the reins of his camel, and went away. When Muʿādh finished praying, he mentioned this to him and said, "This is due to hypocrisy; I will inform the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) of what he did." The young man said, "And I will inform the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) of what he did." So they went to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and Muʿādh informed him of what the young man did. The young man said, "O Messenger of Allāh, he prolongs his stay with you and then returns to prolong it for us." The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, "Are you a troublemaker, O Muʿādh?" And he said to the young man, "What do you do, O nephew, when you pray?" He said, "I recite al-Fātiḥah and ask Allāh for Paradise and seek refuge with Him from the Fire, and I do not know your murmuring and the murmuring of Muʿādh." The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, "I and Muʿādh are around these or something like this." He said, "But Muʿādh will know when the people arrive and have learned that the enemy has come." He said, "They arrived, and the young man was martyred." The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) later said to Muʿādh, "What happened to my opponent and yours?" He said, "O Messenger of Allāh, Allāh has spoken the truth, and I have lied; he was martyred."
