al-Bukhārī mentioned it in a suspended form and al-Tirmidhī in a connected form and authenticated it. There was a man from the Anṣār who led them in prayer at the mosque of Qubāʾ, and whenever he began a sūrah to recite for them in prayer, he would start with "Say, 'He is Allāh, [who is] One," until he finished it, then he would recite another sūrah along with it. He did this in every rakʿah. His companions spoke to him, saying: "You start with this sūrah and then do not consider it sufficient until you recite another. Either recite it or leave it and recite another." He replied: "I will not leave it. If you wish for me to lead you in prayer with it, I will do so, but if you dislike it, I will leave you." They considered him one of the best among them and disliked having anyone else lead them. When the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came to them, they informed him of the matter. He said: "O so-and-so, what prevents you from doing what your companions ask of you, and what compels you to adhere to this sūrah in every rakʿah?" He replied: "I love it." The Prophet said: "Your love for it has admitted you to Paradise." He (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) combined similar and other [sūrahs] in a rakʿah
