ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) said: "I had hemorrhoids, so I asked the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he said: (al-Bukhārī, Abū Dāwūd, and Aḥmad) 'Pray standing, and if you cannot, then sitting, and if you cannot, then on your side.'" He also said: "I asked him (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) about the prayer of a man while sitting, and he said: (al-Bukhārī, Abū Dāwūd, and Aḥmad) 'Whoever prays standing, it is better; and whoever prays sitting, he receives half the reward of the one standing; and whoever prays lying down (in another narration: reclining), he receives half the reward of the one sitting.'"
