this is what I wrote ten years ago in the introduction to this book, and it has become evident to us in this period that it has a positive impact among the ranks of believing youth, guiding them to the necessity of returning in their religion and worship to the pure source of Islam: the Book and the sunnah. Indeed, among them—praise is due to Allāh—those who act upon the sunnah and worship according to it have increased, to the point that they have become known for it. However, I have noticed that some of them hesitate to rush into acting upon it, not because they doubt the necessity of it after we have presented the verses and reports from the imams about the command to return to it, but due to doubts they hear from some of the imitating shaykhs. Therefore, I have decided to mention these doubts and respond to them, hoping that some of them will be motivated thereafter to act upon the sunnah alongside those who do, so they may be among the saved group by the permission of Allāh the Exalted. 1 - Some of them said: There is no doubt that returning to the guidance of our Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in the matters of our religion is obligatory, especially in those matters that are pure acts of worship where there is no room for opinion and ijtihād, as they are prescriptive, like prayer, for example. However, we hardly hear any of the imitating shaykhs command this; rather, we find them acknowledging the differences and claiming that it is a relief for the ummah. They argue this point with a ḥadīth—which they have often repeated on such occasions, refuting the supporters of the sunnah—: "The differences among my ummah are a mercy." It seems to us that this ḥadīth contradicts the methodology you are advocating and upon which you have authored this book and others. So what is your opinion on this ḥadīth?
