extending [the prostration] due to an incidental matter, as some of the Companions said: (The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came out to us during one of the afternoon prayers—[either ẓuhr or ʿaṣr]—carrying Ḥasan or Ḥusayn. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) advanced and placed him [by his right foot], then commenced the prayer and prayed. During his prayer, he performed a prostration and prolonged it. He said: I raised my head [from among the people] and saw the child on the back of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while he was prostrating, so I returned to my prostration). When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) finished the prayer, the people said: O Messenger of Allāh, you performed a prostration during your prayer [this one] that you prolonged until we thought something had happened or that revelation was being sent to you. He said: (al-Nasāʾī, Ibn ʿAsākir, and al-Ḥākim, who authenticated it, and al-Dhahabī agreed) (None of that occurred, but my son mounted me, and I disliked to hasten him until he fulfilled his need) (Ibn Khuzaymah in his "Ṣaḥīḥ"). In another ḥadīth: (He (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) would pray, and when he prostrated, al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn would climb on his back. If they were prevented, he would signal to them to leave them. When he finished the prayer, he placed them in his lap and said: (Whoever loves me should love these two)
