Shortening the Prayer and the Choice Between Fasting and Breaking the Fast During Travels
قصر الصَّلَاة وَالِاخْتِيَار بَين الصّيام والإفطار فِي الْأَسْفَار
19 - The shortening of the prayer during travels. And the choice therein between fasting and breaking the fast during travels. If he wishes, he may fast, and if he wishes, he may break the fast.
١٩ - وإقصار الصَّلَاة فِي الْأَسْفَار. وَالِاخْتِيَار فِيهِ بَين الصّيام والإفطار فِي الْأَسْفَار. إِن شَاءَ صَامَ وَإِن شَاءَ أفطر.
The Consensus of the Past Imams of Guidance on These Statements
اجْتِمَاع أَئِمَّة الْهدى الماضين على هَذِه المقالات
20 - These are statements and actions upon which the past early Imams of guidance agreed. And by the grace of Allāh, the followers adhered to them as a model and with satisfaction. They avoided overburdening themselves in matters they were relieved from, thus they were guided and aided by Allāh. They did not turn away from adherence, thus falling short, nor did they exceed it by adding, thus transgressing. So we trust in Allāh, rely upon Him, and aspire to follow their footsteps.
٢٠ - هَذِه مقالات وأفعال اجْتمع عَلَيْهَا الماضون الْأَولونَ من أَئِمَّة الْهدى. وبتوفيق الله اعْتصمَ بهَا التابعون قدوة ورضى. وجانبوا التَّكَلُّف فِيمَا كفوا فسددوا بعون الله ووفقوا. لم يَرْغَبُوا عَن الِاتِّبَاع فيقصروا وَلم يُجَاوِزُوهُ تزيدا فيعتدوا. فَنحْن بِاللَّه واثقون وَعَلِيهِ متوكلون وَإِلَيْهِ فِي اتِّبَاع آثَارهم راغبون.
