by al-Barsānī from Ibn Jurayj from al-Zuhrī. The one who hears it might think it is connected, but it is not authentic at all. We only left it for that reason because the basis of the ḥadīth is not connected and it is not authentic; it is a defective ḥadīth. And there are many like this, and the one who does not know says, "We have left a sound ḥadīth from this and brought a defective ḥadīth."
البرْسَانِي عَن ابْن جريج عَن الزُّهْرِيّ فالَّذِي يسمع يظنّ أَنه مُتَّصِل وَلَا يَصح بتة. فَإِنَّمَا تَرَكْنَاهُ لذَلِك هَذَا لِأَن أصل الحَدِيث غير مُتَّصِل وَلَا يَصح وَهُوَ حَدِيث مَعْلُول. وَمثل هَذَا كثير وَالَّذِي لَا يعلم يَقُول قد تركنَا حَدِيثا صَحِيحا من هَذَا وَجَاء بِحَدِيث مَعْلُول.
Limiting to Legal Rulings
اقْتِصَاره على الْأَحْكَام
I did not compile in the book of al-Sunan except the legal rulings, and I did not compile books on asceticism and the virtues of deeds and others. So these four thousand and eight hundred are all in the legal rulings, as for ḥadīths like..
