that he does not possess for himself any harm or benefit, and that he cannot avail his closest relatives anything from Allāh? So, how astonishing it is! How can anyone with the slightest share of knowledge or the least portion of understanding hope that an individual from the nation of this Prophet, who says this statement about himself, can benefit or harm him? especially when he is merely a follower of his teachings. Have your ears ever heard—may Allāh guide you—of a greater folly than this folly that has befallen those who worship the inhabitants of graves?! "Indeed, we belong to Allāh, and indeed to Him we will return" (Al-Baqarah, 2:156). We have explained this with utmost clarity in our treatise titled: "The Precious Pearl in the Sincerity of the Word of Tawḥīd," which is available in the hands of the people. There is no doubt that the greatest reason for the emergence of this belief in the dead is what Satan has adorned for people: the raising of graves, placing coverings over them, plastering and decorating them with the most exquisite adornment, and enhancing them with the most complete embellishment. For when an ignorant person lays eyes on a grave upon which a dome has been built, enters it, and sees the magnificent coverings over the graves, the glittering lamps, and the incense burners emitting fragrance around it, there is no doubt that his heart fills with reverence for that grave, and his mind becomes unable to conceive the status of the deceased.
