Let us conclude the discussion with a verse that Allāh mentioned in His Book, which clarifies for you that the disbelief of the polytheists of our time is greater than the disbelief of those whom the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) fought. Allāh, the Exalted, said: "And when adversity touches you at sea, lost are all those you invoke except for Him. But when He delivers you to the land, you turn away. And man is ever ungrateful." (Sūrah al-Isrāʾ, 67). You have heard that Allāh, Glorified be He, mentioned about the disbelievers that when adversity touches them, they abandon the leaders and the elders and do not seek help from them, but rather they sincerely call upon Allāh alone without any partner, and seek help from Him alone. Yet, when ease comes, they associate others with Him. And you see the polytheists of our time, and perhaps some of them claim to be among the people of knowledge, possessing asceticism, diligence, and worship. When adversity touches them, they may seek help from others besides Allāh, like Maʿrūf or ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī, and greater than these, like Zayd ibn al-Khaṭṭāb and al-Zubayr, and greater than these, like the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and Allāh is the one whose help is sought. Greater than that in sin is that they seek help from tyrants, disbelievers, and rebellious ones, like Shamsān, Idrīs, Yūnus, and their likes. And Allāh, Glorified be He, knows best. All praise is due to Allāh, firstly and lastly, and may Allāh send blessings upon the best of His creation, Muḥammad, and all his family.
