in contrast to al-Junayd and his likes, whose intellects and discernment accompanied them in their states, so they did not fall into such annihilation and intoxication and the like. Rather, the complete ones have hearts in which there is nothing but love for Allāh, His will, and His worship. They possess such breadth of knowledge and discernment that they witness things as they truly are. They witness the creation standing by Allāh's command, managed by His will, and responding to Him, devout to Him. Thus, they gain insight and remembrance from it, and what they witness supports and strengthens what is in their hearts of sincerity in religion and the purification of tawḥīd for Him, and worship of Him alone without partner. This is the reality to which the Quran called and which the people of true faith and the complete ones among the people of knowledge upheld. Our Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) is the leader of these and the most complete among them. For this reason, when he was taken up to the heavens and witnessed the signs there, and it was revealed to him what was revealed of various intimacies, he returned to them unchanged in his state, and it did not appear upon him, in contrast
