in the Gospel, the greatest commandments of the Messiah are: "that you love Allāh with all your heart, mind, and soul." The Christians claim their adherence to this love and that their asceticism and worship stem from it, yet they are free from the love of Allāh since they did not follow what He loves. Rather, "they followed what angered Allāh and disliked His pleasure, so He nullified their deeds" (Muḥammad, 28). Allāh hates the disbelievers, despises them, and curses them, while He, glorified be He, loves those who love Him. It is not possible for a servant to love Allāh while Allāh, the Exalted, does not love him. Rather, the extent of the servant's love for his Lord determines Allāh's love for him, even though Allāh's reward for His servant is greater. As in the authentic divine ḥadīth from Allāh, the Exalted, where He said: "Whoever draws near to Me a handspan, I draw near to him an arm's length, and whoever draws near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom, and whoever comes to Me walking, I come to him running." Allāh, glorified be He, has informed that He loves the righteous, the doers of good, the patient, and He loves those who repent and those who purify themselves. Indeed, He loves those who do what He commands
