indulgence in desires or familiarity that lordship cannot tolerate, and for this reason it is reported about Dhū al-Nūn that they spoke in his presence about the matter of love, and he said: "Refrain from this matter so that the souls do not hear it and claim it." And some among the people of knowledge and understanding disliked sitting with those who frequently speak about love without fear. It was said by some of the predecessors: "Whoever worships Allāh with love alone is a heretic, and whoever worships Him with hope alone is a Murji'ah, and whoever worships Him with fear alone is a Harūrī, but whoever worships Him with love, fear, and hope is a true believer and monotheist."
انبساط فِي الْأَهْوَاء أَو إدلال لَا تحتمله الربوبية وَلِهَذَا يذكر عَن ذِي النُّون أَنهم تكلمُوا عِنْده فِي مَسْأَلَة الْمحبَّة فَقَالَ: أَمْسكُوا عَن هَذِه الْمَسْأَلَة لَا تسمعها النُّفُوس فتدعيها. وَكره من كره من أهل الْمعرفَة وَالْعلم مجالسة أَقوام يكثرون الْكَلَام فِي الْمحبَّة بِلَا خشيَة. وَقَالَ من قَالَ من السّلف: من عبد الله بالحب وَحده فَهُوَ زنديق وَمن عَبده بالرجاء وَحده فَهُوَ مرجئ وَمن عَبده بالخوف وَحده فَهُوَ حروري وَمن عَبده بالحب وَالْخَوْف والرجاء فَهُوَ مُؤمن موحد.
