and since arrogance necessitates shirk, and shirk is the opposite of Islam, which is the sin that Allāh does not forgive, He, the Exalted, said (Sūrah al-Nisāʾ, 48): "Indeed, Allāh does not forgive associating others with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And whoever associates others with Allāh has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin." And He said (Sūrah al-Nisāʾ, 116): "Indeed, Allāh does not forgive associating others with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And whoever associates others with Allāh has certainly gone far astray." All the prophets were sent with the religion of Islam, for it is the religion that Allāh does not accept other than it, neither from the first nor the last [generations]. Nūḥ said (Sūrah Yūnus, 72): "But if you turn away, then I have not asked you for any reward. My reward is only from Allāh, and I have been commanded to be of the Muslims." And He said regarding Ibrāhīm (Sūrah al-Baqarah, 130-132): "And who would be averse to the religion of Ibrāhīm except one who makes a fool of himself? And We had chosen him in this world, and indeed he, in the Hereafter, will be among the righteous. When his Lord said to him, 'Submit,' he said, 'I have submitted to the Lord of the worlds,'" up to His saying: "So do not die except while you are Muslims." Yūsuf said (Sūrah Yūsuf, 101): "Cause me to die a Muslim and join me with the righteous." Mūsá said (Sūrah Yūnus, 84-85): "O my people, if you have believed in Allāh, then rely upon Him, if you should be Muslims." So they said, "Upon Allāh do we rely." And He, the Exalted, said (Sūrah al-Māʾidah, 44): "Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to Allāh] judged by it for the Jews." Bilqīs said (Sūrah al-Naml, 44): "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Sulaymān to Allāh, Lord of the worlds." And He said (Sūrah al-Māʾidah, 111): "And [remember] when I inspired to the disciples, 'Believe in Me and in My messenger,' they said, 'We have believed, so bear witness that indeed we are Muslims.'" And He said (Sūrah Āl ʿImrān, 19): "Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allāh is Islam." And He said (Sūrah Āl ʿImrān, 85): "And whoever desires other than Islam as religion—never will it be accepted from him."
